Toward a secure Internet

The Internet's rate of growth in recent years has brought with it the attention of unscrupulous and even malicious types, seeking to exploit weaknesses in its structure for their gain or even just for kicks. While legal proceedings against "denial of service" attackers is the usual tactic in these cases, Panix believes the only way to stem this tide is for all Internet sites, providers, and backbones to work together and prevent such from originating at our own systems.

More than once in our history, Panix has gone public with news of attacks against our service when other institutions, similarly attacked, either chose to maintain silence because they were embarrassed to acknowledge their vulnerability or because they failed to understand what was actually happening. By going public, we were able to enlist the help of security experts, and to make some fundamental changes in the development of the Internet.

Individual Account Security

Your Panix account (like any Internet account) exists on a public system in a worldwide network. Because of this, it's important to keep your account secure so that your email, account ID and even your "virtual identity" remain yours alone.

Look here for all kinds of info about keeping your account secure, and even enhancing that security with encryption, one-time passwords, etc.
